Show Me Nutrition is an experientially based sequential nutrition curriculum that teaches youths from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade how to have a healthy lifestyle while reinforcing behaviors that promote nourishing eating habits and an active lifestyle. WA SNAP-Ed has approved pre-kindergarten through 5th grade for Direct Education. Grades 6th- 8th are still being updated and may be approved later. Each grade builds on information from the previous grades. It is practice tested and approved by FNS and meets the National Health Education Standards.
The Show Me Nutrition curriculum also supports grade-level expectations for math and communication arts, as appropriate. Each of the nine curricula comprising the Show Me Nutrition sequence teaches several important health themes, such as nutrition, food safety, physical activity, how media may influence nutrition and body image. Age-appropriate content, activities and handouts make learning about healthy eating fun for students in all grade levels.
The pre-kindergarten through 5th grade curricula includes family newsletters that help family members and caregivers support learning from each grade level. Each curriculum includes handouts to reinforce lesson content with families and caregivers. These handouts are available in multiple languages including Spanish.
Each grade has its own Instructor Guide. If you plan to use Show Me Nutrition for several grades, you must have the appropriate Instructor Guide for each grade. Please contact the CTW team to order SMN curricula. They are also available as PDFs.
Show Me Nutrition is approved for use starting in FFY24. Every educator that plans to implement this curriculum, at any grade level, must first attend a training.
Please note: Modifications can be made around using certain materials (ex. puppets, etc.) Please contact the CTW Team with questions and for more information!
